The Results of the 7th Annual Club Classic

With busy fishing schedules, TOC’s and the down economy the Club Classic still managed to have 60 Anglers and one great BBQ by WAAZUU.

The Delta Bass Club is dedicated to doing the hard work to ensure that the tradition continues where Fishing Clubs come to gather to have fun and meeting others of the same attitude of having fun.

It all started at 5:00 am in the morning at Russo’s marina but for some reason a few of the anglers were there at 4:30 am, must have been excited to get started. We check all the live well and had all 30 boats in the water by 6:30 am. At 6:54 am, boat number one was called to blast off followed by the other 29 boats. The blast off took all of 10 minutes (20 seconds per boat). Now the long wait!

I would like to thank Andy (Cooch) Cuccia, for being out MC, he does have a way of saying things – thanks Cooch! I also what to say thanks to Gene Buchholz for helping out our weigh master Rick Tankersley.

As the first flight came in at 3:00 pm it started to get good right off the bat. The Largest Bag of the event came in at 19.80 lbs by the team of Ron Mitchell and Dave Jake from the Sacramento Bass Wranglers making that club the leaders after the first flight at total of 30.40 lbs a total of 9 fish follow by Delta Bass Club with 20.65 lbs for 9 fish. The Bass Buster of Santa Clara with 13.35 for 5 fish, Fresno Bass Club with 10.90 lbs with 6 fish and Diablo Hawg Hunters with 3 fish for 5.30 lbs completed the lineup.

Ron Mitchell and Dave Jake had the largest bag of the flight and the second best bag by 9.40 lbs. Gary Pardini and Tom Fereria of the Delta Bass Club had the second best bag with 10.40 lbs. Note of interest in the 2010 Club Classic Gary Pardini came in with the smallest bag, he was not going to make it two in a roll.

The big fish of the first flight was 6.05 that was weight in by Chris Rhoden of the Bass Busters of Santa Clara by the way he was fishing from back of the boat. The second big fish was weighed in by Ron Mitchell at 5.45 lbs and the third big fish was weighted in by Harry Chang with a 3.90 lb fish.

The first flight started as one of the most exciting weight-ins for the Club Classic. The Bass Wranglers said they were there to defend their last year’s winnings.

Ron Mitchell and Dave Jake - Biggest Bag 19.80 Pounds

As the second flight came in at 3:10 pm for weight in we had the Sacramento Bass Wranglers leading by 8.75 lbs over the second in the running the Delta Bass Club. The second flight started with Gary Morris of the Diablo Hawg Hunters coming in wanting to weight a big fish! As all head turned towards Cooch as he weight the big fish at 6.05 lbs tying the first flight big fish. Side note – I only have one trophy for big fish!

Then the team of Joe Bricker and Dan Daniel of the Delta Bass Club came walking down with one fish in a bag by itself. Big fish coming to the weight-in! Cooch looked at it and said we have a new leader and when it was weight in it came in at 6.15 lbs, we had a new leader for Big Fish. As for the fight for first place we had the Bass Wranglers coming in with an additional 19.35 lbs to add to their 30.40 lbs giving them 49.75 lbs after second flight weight-in. But wait the team of Joe Bricker and Dan Daniel came in with the second big bag for the second flight at 15.50 lbs and the other team of Delta Bass Club came in with 10.70 lbs giving the Delta Bass Club 26.20 lbs giving them a gain of 6.85 lbs on Wranglers. The weights for the best club when like this – Bass Wranglers 18 fish 48.75 lbs, Delta Bass Club 19 fish for 46.85. The Diablo Hawg Hunters 12 fish for 29.40 lbs, The Bass Busters 11 fish for 23.75 lbs, and the Fresno Bass Club 11 fish for 19.85. There also looks like a fight for third place between Diablo Hawg Hunters and Bass Busters of Santa Clara. Gary Morris and Matt Soule came in with the best bag for the second flight with 16.75 lbs putting Hawa’s over the Busters by 5.65 lbs.

2nd Big Fish - Gary Morris

I want to pause for the cause and say thank you to our sponsors: Waltons Pond, Tom Coss Fishing, Vicious Fishing Line, Pro Cure Fishing Scents, Miranda Calloway at Dobyns Rods, Delta Outdoors, Hook Line & Sinker, Boat Masters of Livermore, Connie at Snag Proof, Jim at Black Bear Diner, Bill at WON Bass, American Trophies, Bobby D’s Custom Baits, Vince at Future Pro Tournaments, Russo’s Marina, Cooch’s Fishing and Total Tunes.

Now the third Flight and who will be the Number One Club for 2011. The standing and the fight are as follows. The fight for third place is between Diablo Hawg Hunters and Bass Busters. After the first flight the Bass Busters were leading but the Hawg Hunters lead after the second fight – who will win third place? As for the fight for first place was between Sacramento Bass Wranglers and the Delta Bass Club and where the Wranglers have been leading in both the first and second weight-ins.

The fight for third started with the Hawg Hunters coming in with 5 fish for both teams for 6.70 lbs. Side note – this Club Classic was the first year for the Hawg Hunters and they said they will be back. As the Bass Busters came in with 8 fish for both of their teams and weight of 16.8 lbs they jumped into third place with a total weight of 40.55 lbs beating the Diablo Hawg Hunters with only a weight of 36.10 lbs.

Now for the fight for first place and the best Bass Club in the west, it started with the Wrangler teams coming in with 7 fish giving them a total of 62.85 lbs. A hard number to beat when the team of John Hagins and Ronnie VanAirsdale come in with 3 fish for 4.90 lbs. As the last team of Ron Pine and Sean Kinnick for the Delta Bass comes up for the weight-in all falls on their fishing abilities. Side note – Ron Pine fished last year with Gary Pardini and they had the smallest bag of the 2010 Club Classic. Can they do it? Well at least they had 5 fish but will it be enough? Well they are not the smallest bag this year with a bag of 14.30 lbs and pushing the Delta Bass Club into the lead with a total of 66.05 lbs.

7th Annual Club Classic

Russo's Marina - October 15, 2011 on The California Delta

The Club Classic is back! This year we want to make it bigger and better than ever. The Club Classic started a few years ago as the Northern California Club Classic or NCCC. The winner every year would host the next years event. This worked well for a few years and we had our biggest event in 2008 when we attracted 11 teams--66 boats--to the tournament at Russo's Marina on the California Delta. The Delta Bass Club took over the event in 2009 and renamed it the Club Classic.

This year we are opening up the Club Classic to every legitimate Bass Club west of the Mississippi. We want your Top 12 anglers--six teams--to come out to the California Delta on October 15, 2011 to Russo's Marina in Bethel Island, CA and compete for the title of Best Bass Club in The West. We hope to make one of the biggest bass fishing events of the year. We are also seeking sponsors for the Club Classic. So if you would like to reach a bunch of fisherman with your product or service, please contact us using the form below.

The rules and registration forms are located below. Take a look at them and you can also use the form below if you have any other questions. We are getting the word out early so clubs can put this event on their calendar. So at your next club meeting be sure to put the Club Classic on your agenda and plan on coming out and having what is sure to be a great time!

The Club Classic pulled 30 boats (5 Clubs) and the best bag of 5 fish was
13.80 lbs and big fish was 6.85 lb landed with swim bait.  The bite was though
out on the Delta but a good time was had by all!

Through out the weigh-in the lead for best "Club and Bragging Rights" kept
changing. Mike Reynolds and Gene Buchholz kept the suspense going until the
last Club team weighed in.  It went from Bass Classics of Santa Clara to
Delta Bass Club and over to Fresno Bass Club.  Mike Reynolds was telling
everyone that Fresno Bass Club just went into the lead with their last team
weighing-in as the Delta Bass Club was weighing-in their last team.  Only
1.75 lbs separated the top two teams.  Thanks Mike Reynolds and Gene
Buchholz for being our MC's and keeping anticipation of who won!  It was a
close finish that was announced right after the BBQ!

The winning club was the Delta Bass Club with a total weight of 39 lbs
Second place was Fresno Bass Club with 37.25 lbs
Third place was Bass Classics of Santa Clara with 35.25 lbs
Santa Clara Bass Busters had 30.40 lbs
Westside Anglers had 23.00 lbs.

First Big Fish went to Bob Johnningsmeir of Westside Anglers and we did
something new in giving out awards - Jack Clark was Bob team partner and did
the job of netting - both received flipping rods from Mel Cotton's Sporting
Goods
in San Jose.

Second Big Fish went to Cliff Woods of Fresno Bass Club (and he was catching
fish all day and he gave out the secret after some arm twisting by Mike
Reynolds
) with a 5.25 landed with a 1/4 oz jig on 10 lbs Fluoro.  He
received a rod and Hat from Kittles Outdoors in Colusa.

The Largest Bag (13.80 lbs) was again Cliff Woods and his team partner Scott
Smith - they were hooked up with two reels from Mel Cotton's Sporting Goods in
San Jose.

The Smallest Bag (?? Lbs) went to Bob Williams and Joe Heylen of Santa Clara
Bass Busters
and to help them out for next years Club Classic they got Danny
Miller
Punching Weights - a complete set for each.

The BBQ was provided by Waazuu and we are not just talking about one type of
meat - we had Links, Hot Links, Chicken, Ribs and Prim Rib plus some other
stuff that rabbits eat.  I over heard Mike Reynolds say it is quiet as the
anglers ate - they were to busy eating - you could hear a pin drop.  Look
for Waazuu to be at a lot of other Tournaments.

This year the Club Classic was put together in just two months and that is
getting a permit and finding out we scheduled on top of WCB. We had to
change the Venue so every one could fish.  Next years Club Classic is being
planned now and it is going to be the biggest and best Club event of the
year!  Take note it is just called Club Classic meaning any Club from out
West can come and try to be the best!  I know of five clubs that will be
coming back!

I would like again to thank our "Sponsors" for stepping up in the short time
to set up this Club Tournament!

1. Bass West USA Magazine (everyone fishing will receive a "Basswest
Magazine).
2. Mel Cotton's Sporting Goods in San Jose
3. Kittles Outdoors in Colusa
4. Danny Miller Punchin Weights
5. Waazuu
6. Total Tunes DJ Service

Last but not least are all of the volunteers that helped out - without them it
is hard to put on an event like this!
